Nominating someone for TNGSDC Board is really simple. Just provide the Election Committee with the names of Club members who you believe would be good in a leadership role in the Club.  That’s all you need to do ... the Election Committee will take over from there.  We will contact everyone who is nominated and encourage him or her to run for an appropriate position on the Board. Nominations Forms will be available at the February Club Dance this Saturday, as well.

February Next Gen Club Dance

Please join The Next Generation Swing Dance Club at the Allegro Ballroom in Emeryville for our monthly club dance on Saturday, February 6. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

The DJ is Kelly Casanova and  the lesson is being offered by Yvonne & Jason Wayne. Our contest is the sixth "Luck of the Draw" preliminary round. More information about contests at Next Gen Club Dances can be found here.

The dance starts at 6pm.
 The lesson is from 7-8pm in the back room. The $7 member / $12 non-member / $5 student entrance fee includes the lesson and dance.

Beginning in March we will be checking membership cards at the door. It is our objective to make dances more secure and ensure that current members receive the dance discount to which they are entitled.  So make sure to bring your card with you to speed up the process at the register!

A "Day With the Stars" in March

Plan to attend a fabulous "Day with the Stars" (DWTS) on Saturday, March 6, 2010. National champions Deborah Szekely, Robert Cordoba, Melissa Rutz, and Arjay Centeno will combine their effort to provide you with three dramatic workshops.  Mark your calendars for 1:30 - 5:00, followed by TNGSDC Annual Meeting at 5:00 and the Club dance at 6:00 -- all at the Allegro Ballroom. Because of the dramatic difference between the DWTS $25 member price and the $50 price for those who are not members, we will be checking membership cards at the registration desk for "Day With the Stars", as well as the Club dances.

The address of the Allegro Ballroom is 5855 Christie Avenue, Emeryville, and is conveniently located off of I-80 next to the Powell Street exit (just past the IKEA and Trader Joe's). Coming from I-80, take the Powell Street exit headed East, turn left on Christie Avenue just past the Denny's, and turn left into the parking lot at the last entrance in front of the strip of buildings. The Allegro is to the back of the strip.

One of the goals of TNGSDC is to have special membership benefits. To that end, members pay a reduced price for a “Day with the Stars” workshops on Saturday, March 6, 2010.  Members can attend all 3 workshops presented by national champions Deborah Szekely, Robert Cordoba, Melissa Rutz and Arjay Centeno for only $25!  This also includes the price of admission to the evening dance!  (Non members pay $50). Make sure your membership is current so you can take advantage of this membership benefit.

We welcome 2010 with anticipation and hope for a better economy in 2010.   In spite of the economy, our club prospered.  Boogie was a huge success and our club dances continue to be well attended and membership remains strong!

One of the goals of the club is to ensure our members receive benefits.  To that end we have scheduled “A Day with the Stars” on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

Congratulations to the winners of Preliminary Round #5 of Next Gen's Luck of the Draw dance contest. These dancers placed 1st through 5th out of 25 couples competing.

We will have 8 preliminary Luck of the Draw rounds with the finals at the Next Gen dance on June 6, 2010. Couples who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd during the preliminary rounds qualify for the finals.

Create your own listings on the Calendar!

Anyone can easily add their own event to the Next Gen Dance calendar! It's free and it's pretty easy. Historically, calendar entries were maintained by the webmaster. It had to be that way because the old site was the old technology. Not anymore! The idea is that this is a community website and members are encouraged to contribute and interact, not just take and partake. When we first put the site up, I manually rekeyed all the calendar entries into the new calendar system. With the new website upgrade, we're now able to be more proactive in getting the membership online. So, now you can find your own userid and password to get logged in and create and manage your own entries on the calendar and other places as well.
