Please join us at the Allegro Ballroom in Emeryville for our monthly club dance! We're looking forward to seeing you there!
This month's dance is on Independence Day so come out and celebrate our country at a swing dance with a "country" theme (like in country-western dance). Show your country colors (red, white, and blue) and enjoy our 4th of July country buffet.
Our DJ is Mike Pyle.
Our lesson is being offered by UCWDC Champions and new owners of South Bay Dance Fling, Glenn and Sue Cravalho (click here for their website)! Our contest is the Strictly Swing, Novice Special (if you have questions, email to

).
The dance starts at 6pm.
The lesson is from 7-8pm in the back room.
$7 member / $12 non-member / $5 student entrance fee includes the lesson and dance.
The address of the Allegro Ballroom is 5855 Christie Avenue, Emeryville, and is conveniently located off of I-80 next to the Powell Street exit (just past the IKEA and Trader Joe's). Coming from I-80, take the Powell Street exit headed East, turn left on Christie Avenue just past the Denny's, and turn left into the parking lot at the last entrance in front of the strip of buildings. The Allegro is to the back of the strip.

NOVICE SPECIAL Strictly Swing on July 4th! |
|
Monday, 29 June 2009 00:00 |
|
Calling all Novice dancers! The contest at the July 4th Club Dance will be a Mixed Level NOVICE SPECIAL Strictly Swing contest. Strictly Swing is where dancers sign-up as couples, but don't know what music they will be dancing to. So Novices, hook up with an Intermediate, Advanced, or All-Star dancer and come join the fun. Novice-novice partnerships are also welcome. Champions, we love you, but to avoid a "pro-am-like" partnership, Champs are excluded this time. Just remember, at least one dancer in the partnership must be a Novice. Got questions? Send email to

Vice President's Message to the Membership |

July 2009
It has been a long time since a message was published on behalf of the Board of Directors of our club. I am Marla Bach Saltzstine, the Club’s Vice President and I will be communicating with you on a regular basis.
What an exciting year for the Club! We are 20 years old and that is quite an accomplishment. This could only have happened with the dedication of so many volunteers over the years. We are a real business. The club is a “Non-Profit” corporation promoting all kinds of dancing, especially focusing on West Coast Swing.
We have continued to have our dances at the Allegro Ballroom in Emeryville and have enjoyed the facility and the management team of Ray & Lydia Wong. The club has a great relationship with them and we are pleased to be part of their monthly program. Last summer, our President, Maureen Stockdale, negotiated to keep the 2009 dances in the front main ballroom for the entire evening. This was a great decision for the club because the attendees do not have to move to another ballroom in the evening. Our attendance has been approximately 300 each month since January 2009.
I want to thank all of the volunteers, D.J.s, instructors, and snack coordinators who assist us at each monthly dance to make them so successful.
This year we have a very enthusiastic Board of Directors, some being involved for the first time and others with a lot of experience. The blend of the group has proven to be an asset for our board and it is great to experience a lot of positive energy and passion.
Here are some club activities that the board is working on:
- On Saturday, July 18th from 4:30 to 5:30, the club is again dancing at the Alameda County Fair at the Bandstand stage. The passes are going fast. Please see me at the dance or contact me at:

- The club’s convention, “Boogie By the Bay”, October 8-11, 2009, is fast approaching. Tickets are on sale. Go here for more information on our website about our exciting convention. For tickets, contact Kim Liu at

or 510-468-4671.
- "A Day with the Stars" in 2010: One of our Independent Directors, Debbie Tsujimoto, suggested that we provide workshops at no charge to club members. Dancers who are not club members are welcome, but they will be charged a workshop fee. We have created an Ad Hoc Committee to work on this event and has set the date: Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Allegro Ballroom. I can promise you that the instructors are “Stars”. In fact, that's why the event will be called “Day with the Stars”. We are in the process of contacting the instructors now. The club had 2 of these events many years ago and they were very well received by the community. We will keep you advised as the plans are finalized.

Our members are the equivalent of stockholders – so each and everyone of you is important and critical to the life of the Club because you ARE the club.

Create your own listings on the Calendar!
Anyone can easily add their own event to the Next Gen Dance calendar! It's free and it's pretty easy. Historically, calendar entries were maintained by the webmaster. It had to be that way because the old site was the old technology. Not anymore! The idea is that this is a community website and members are encouraged to contribute and interact, not just take and partake. When we first put the site up, I manually rekeyed all the calendar entries into the new calendar system. With the new website upgrade, we're now able to be more proactive in getting the membership online. So, now you can find your own userid and password to get logged in and create and manage your own entries on the calendar and other places as well.

I'm still working on the videos, so don't bother sending any corrections for them yet. But if you find any other issues, please email us at
